I’m half convinced the author doesn't have control over the direction as much as her editor does. If you've followed and bought some of Momose An’s djs in her early days like i have, you must have noticed the stark difference by now.
The angst in her dj's always had a two-fold purpose: a character study through conflicts in which the characters emerge clearer for the readers and with a depth that elevates the progression of the story.
Only 2 of her original works (How Far is My Dream Allowed and Ore Mite) stood true to that(correct me if I'm wrong), and the rest are soft porn. Not saying her djs didnt have smut, oh it was smutty but there was heart. So much of it that you could tell the author had loved creating it from top to bottom, from the characters to the prose, from stylistic closed-ups to backgrounds.
I get it, it's the editor's job to make the author's vision more palatable to a general audience (noncon and dogshit tops are still hot in Japan. Source: my ass. just filter the yaoi tag bro) but damn this was a loss.
