I also think they’re getting mad because originally Lyn had all of his affection, which not only gives her higher position but her maids/attendants as well. And they’re quite delusional. Once the emperor gives his attention and affection somewhere else they badmouth that person because they’re no longer the ones that are receiving it and they’re so mad and jealous that all they do is badmouth her. This happens a lot in these fantasy/historical manhwas where other girls badmouth the one that gets the guy’s love and attention. But this also happens irl with a lot of other girls

yeah that seems like the most common theory. i just feel like theres something more to it. we can’t read lyn’s thoughts and she’s never said anything bad about the empress even after she changed. she even offered to help her win the affection of the emperor and lyn knew that his affection towards her did more damage than good. one of my theories is that maybe lyn has become obsessed w the empress bc she was so nice to her and she wants her all to herself? if this is just a cliché manhwa then maybe not..

Tbh i’d rather it be that because way too many stories have it where they’re obsessed with the male lead. I want to see the “female rival” (but not actual rival) obsessed with the FL. Not in the sense of “i’m so obsessed w you because i want to destroy you and see you crumble” but like an affection obsession
