I want to hug the author for showing the reality of tiger parents and the pressure on high school students. I was lucky...my parents never cared much about grades, but my best friend wasn’t.
She passed away three years ago because her parents pushed her too hard. To them, anything less than first place was failure. She would hint at her struggles, but I didn’t understand. When I praised her for her high grades, she’d snap, saying it wasn’t enough. I was naïve. I told her grades didn’t matter, thinking it would help. But by the time I saw how deep she was drowning, she was already gone.
When I cleaned out her locker, I found her diary, filled with details of the abuse she faced. I took it to the police, hoping for justice, but they did nothing. Her case was closed.
The main character in this story reminds me so much of her. And every day, I miss her more than words can say.
