As a person who openly tells people I'm close with that I have an eating disorder (so they won't be shocked by an apperance change), the most offensive thing I've been told by some members of my family is that they wish they could be like me. Be skinny. I WAS LITERALLY DYING AT SEVERAL POINTS OF MY LIFE.   reply

Unfortunately most, if not all, communities have that sort of people. Some people get too extreme when there is something they are into or hate. As you said they have trouble making out reality and fiction, and more often than not this is expressed in a harmful way.   reply
