Ive read, and none are correct lmao. Every single one of you miss the actual intention and context od the story. This manhwa is CLEARLY anti racist- it uses racism in the story to CRITICISE, not PROMOTE it. They are not ENDORSING racism, rather the opposite. Please, if a piece of fiction represents realism and themes that include that, you’re quick to label it racist by taking it surface level instead of understanding the purpose of it inside it.

Instead of it being racist it’s like the polar opposite, not only are they drawn beautifully but their culture is also presented as well??? Please fix ur head

In what fucking way? By drawing middle Eastern, people as evil and awful stereotypes. By using a fucking racial slur throughout the whole entire story? By drawing people of color as barbaric, animalistic and aggressive?? By not even accurately portraying the culture or clothing correctly?? Does that seem like representation to you?

I saw your shit take and how does it represent realism because it’s not even portraying people of color correctly at all why is almost every single Middle Eastern person evil in the story?? Why is it not even portraying the time period correctly? So why are they not portraying Romani culture and history correctly in any fucking way? It’s literally just porn manhwa made by a racist ass Korean who, for their dear life, can’t write anything but fucking white people.

The characters are not specifically coded as Romani or Middle Eastern in any direct way. They are FANTASY races in a fictional world, BASED loosely from multiple influences, which is COMMON in fantasy storytelling that pulls themes for realism????
The “evil kingdom” isn’t Urkan it’s FUCKING ESTIA u idiot, a white imperialist nation built on LIES and PROPAGANDA . The supposed “barbarians” are shown to be emotionally intelligent, loyal, culturally rich ETC and the story literally DECONSTRUCTS the lie that they are violent monsters. PLEASE READ LMAO

Me pointing out racial stereotypes of brown people is racist???
How is it racist??
1. They portray and call people of color barbarians and savages
2. The hyper sexualization of brown men is so fucking obvious. Ishakan is hyper masculinized, animalistic and aggressive bc he is portrayed as “uncivilized” since he is from the desert while she is framed as civilized and a white savior who can help his rage. She is quite literally the western white women trope who brings wisdom, calmness, and kindness while he’s the aggressive one.
3. The whole entire fucking title.

I dismantle your first point so fucking easily:
1. Who are the ones that view them as barbarians and savages? The estian kingdom!! Correct!!
2. However, are they truly shown to be barbaric and savages? No! Correct again!! Then what are they actually truthfully are portrayed as? Kind, loyal, beautiful etc
3. Now let’s go back, do any of those mean they are actually barbaric and the creator is telling us that they truly are negative? Nope!
Your second point:
1. Who’s the person that needs saving in this story
It’s laughable how you people shouting it’s racist seem to always change your user settings so people can’t reply to you whenever you get schooled that it isn’t racist?
It’s not hyper-sexualisation of brown men, especially Ishakan he’s a literall filly developed character not a sexual object. I understand how u see him as the latter cuz you guys don’t actually read the story fully + probably self projection. He also hows his masculinity as multifaceted and not one dimensional so it definitely goes way beyond “fetishization”. Do you think fetish porn has complex characters that goes beyond just “hyper-sexualisation”?
All you can say is “ur too busy jerking off” after ive said all these points and then proceed to change your user settings HAHAHAH, it’s funny because I actually started reading this BECAUSE i was one of you guys- skeptical of this story and the title. But after being open and reading it, it actually has a narrative(that u guys dont seem to get), so lesson to take; don’t be narrowminded Also im not attracted to men so yea im definitely “jerking off to Ishakhan who is soooooo hyper-sexualised”. 10/10 self projection btw, keep camping in this comment section eventhough u seem to lurk around here yet talk shit about a story which you don’t fully get? Kinda suspicious i must say LMAO
I understand your pain. I almost posted a rant about this same thing myself but knew it was going to be a battle with the illiterate and changed my mind. People really need to work on their reading comprehension if they think a story where people of color are being portrayed as the heroes is racist.
Frrr I kinda regretted saying anything about it but it really irks me to see people so loud and so wrong especially accusing a story of racism when it isn’t
I’m Middle Eastern and this is not representation! If you are not a brown person I don’t think you should really comment on this, it does portray a lot of racial stereotypes but I don’t think people should expect representation or to be accurately portrayed in manhwas/manhuas/manga bc they come from close minded and heavily colorist countries so is it a surprise that this has racial stereotypes. Not at all.
I don’t know about the original poster but I am a brown person and I know I’m not the only one that doesn’t see an issue. This a fantasy series written by someone that probably only knows what they could garner from textbooks and the internet. If the stereotypes they happened to learn are that black and brown people are beautiful with peak physiques living in diverse, rich lands with great strategist and talented warriors, I’m not really seeing the problem. I don’t know if there’s a language barrier that has caused some kind of misunderstanding but it seems some people are forgetting which side is considered the villains in this story and why.
It makes me wonder… would people think this story was fine if the villains were Eurocentric nation but everyone was brown or black and the ex-slaves/ heroes were beautiful white people that had supernatural origins that gave them traits of animals like wolves and snakes instead?
You can’t compare white people to poc struggles and colorism bc European culture is never demonized and people don’t go out of their way to masculinize white women and constantly draws as animals. That’s the problem here and how majority of historical manhwas portraying pocs as aggressive, animalistic, slaves or give us animal characteristics that’s all we’re ever represented in nothing more. Again I’m not looking for representation but it does get tiring seeing pocs being only depicted in that way, even if they’re trying to show how realistic it was back then.
Now I’m really starting to think there’s a language barrier or perhaps lack of reading comprehension taught in English classes nowadays because none of what you said applies to what I was getting at. No one compared struggles and my question was rhetorical. I’d like to think that it doesn’t really boil down to people preferring the Kurkans were white and the Estians were POC just because they rather black and brown faces were doing the enslaving.
And I mentioned that the stereotypes the author depicts made the POC characters more beautiful, more talented, and stronger than their enemies. I’m not exactly LOOKING for representation from people that probably haven’t see a black or brown face outside of T.V either. All I’m saying is if they’re inspired to write stories with black and brown characters, I’m not exactly upset when they make us kick ass rising against oppression and look damn good doing it. I’d take more offense if the Kurkans were the bad guys and all the negative rumors the people of Estia spread about them turned out to be true.
