I’m pretty sure Mathew has autism, the board with the different emotion expressions is basically down to a T what mfs used to show me (guy with autism) , + his general behavior towards others both now and especially when he was younger really just. hint heavily at it.
Looking at back at his childhood ; A lot of autistic children do not learn how to talk at appropriate ages, sometimes this is when they’re younger than usual, but most of the time they’re quiet for longer than is considered normal. Now while a late development of speech can be caused by trauma, multiple studies show that society rarely, if ever, produces autistic people without any form of trauma. This can be circumstantial trauma, but being in a society that doesn’t really know how to deal with autistic children, will most likely leave one traumatized either way.
This has nothing with the story itself, but rather just reading into his character a little.
The board with the emotional expressions really just threw me off.
