Pointing out someone's behaviour doesn't always mean it's hating on that character. Taeju was a manipulative, selfish, greedy bastard. He even admits it himself throughout the whole story til the end, and I agree with him. 90 chapters in and he was still having twisted thoughts because of his obsession with MC (can't spell his name)
What's disappointing me is that the "redemption" arc was so short and already near the end. It felt like nothing ever went right and we barely saw genuine moments between the couple because most of the time, it was the unhealthy attachment they had for each other (Everything's been taken away from MC and only has Taeju to depend on) PLUS I'm really pissed bc I felt like nothing truly happened to the perpetrators, the petty side of me just wanted to see MC's dad burn lol
This is somewhat dark romance, not sunshine and rainbow and it's okay

I completely agree. Taeju’s redemption arc should’ve been much longer and should’ve started with him forgiving MC’s debt + quitting being a gangster (NOT doing it at the very end lol). His redemption also wasn’t satisfying, because he was mostly cleaning up after his own mistakes (MC’s brother being taken away, MC being absolutely broken, etc).
Their relationship was so unequal that his redemption arc was set to easy mode. MC is broke, literally has no one to rely on, has his only family taken away and is just a depressed, anxious mess. Of course basic human decency and bare minimum would make him dependent and love Taeju.
Taeju destroyed MC’s life and then swooped in to ‘save’ him. It’s just awful.
I also get that this story is not sunshine and rainbows. But it’s upsetting to see people (also teenagers/kids in the comments) put Taeju on the pedestal and excuse/forgive his actions when he hasn’t done much. It’s upsetting to see people treat rape, pimping, loan exploitation, forceful impregnation and etc. as something that could be forgiven easily as long as the person apologises and regrets it. Like… no. The crimes Taeju has committed should not be forgiven that quickly.

Yes I completely agree. I might've misworded some of my statements or tried to make it seem less serious because I didn't want to get jumped lol. Seeing constant praise for Taeju's "redemption" made me question if I was reading the same story as other readers.
Taeju himself insinuated that without the debt, MC would never look his way. It felt almost one-sided? I have never seen MC smile at him genuinely and is always making uncomfortable expressions during intimacy. It somehow felt like Taeju coerced him into having feelings for him due to the situation he was placed in :')
The most positive thing I can say about Taeju is, well, he has a very nice character design lol

That is so true. That’s what I mean that their relationship is unequal and toxic. MC has no one and was quickly deteriorating with Taeju, but then the same bastard is the only person to give him a house and stability. He literally has no other choice but be with Taeju, because alternative is being broke, raising a kid alone and being lonely, which is MC’s fear. It feels like he went back to Taeju, because he is the only person who can give him stability and make him less lonely. It doesn’t look like love. More like MC is just genuinely drained and settled for Taeju.
And the fact that the only love rival is an average university student is just laughable. Like, of course MC would not pick a university student who is learning to be a doctor. How would a student make money for three people, help raise a child AND study medicine? Fucking absurd. Like there isn’t much of a choice.
The more I think about this manhwa, the more depressed I become. It genuinely baffles (and upsets) me that this manhwa has such high rating and so popular.
Nothing wrong with enjoying this manhwa, but it’s completely different when fans dickride Taeju and turn a blind eye to his crimes just because he is a little silly and funny.

I honestly loved it in general but some parts of this story make me want to rip my hair out. JAERIM DESERVES SO MUCH AND MORE. I feel like we aren't talking about how much he's gone through enough. He's done so much for his friends while getting little back and a lot of the times, he gets beaten/bullied for it.
Additionally, he had never once given up on Yuri. Even when there were times that their relationship got rocky, he was always worried about him and often checked up on him via friends.
I don't know, maybe it's just me, but it was so disappointing how Yuri was so quick to turn his back on someone who he supposedly love. I'm just saying all of this because I wanted to see panels where Jaerim is happy because he deserves everything good in the world :(((
I'm ngl I want Diarin to hold and comfort me like that
I want to be sandwiched between them
