The problem is that a lot of stories with pedophilia/child grooming/rape does not actually come with any sort of warning. It’s actually horrifying the amount of rape and abuse that’s wrapped up in a pretty pink shoujo bow. It’s probably the same for genres like shounen. It’s disturbing when webtoons aimed at minors come without trigger warnings and normalise and romanticise extremely twisted relationships.

I may not be the right person to answer this, but here's my thoughts :/

I think gay ppl view yaoi/bl in a way that is similar to how straight ppl view ur typical straight romance/ hentai. They may view it as interesting, maybe a bit exaggerated in some, or relating to a degree in some aspects of the story in others.

As for fudanshis, it might be similar to straight girls reading yuri/gl as well; they just view it as somethings different, might be interested in how other girls do it, but they themselves still prefer to have sex with the other gender.

These r just my speculations about it tho. I do still wanna hear from actual gay ppl and fudanshis as well. Maybe share a personal feeling/thought they have in certain stories, like in accordance to typical or unique plots, or maybe how they felt when they had a strong connection to a certain plot and how that affected their view of things.

I think it's personal. I enjoy reading yaoi, it's one of my favorite hobbies, but my other gay friends don't like it. Mostly cause yaoi portrays gay people different from reality. I've already read tons of yaoi in my life and I can say for sure that just one or two came close to a real gay relationship. In the end yaoi it's being made mostly from woman to woman and the thing is, the way the see gay people it's not how we really are. Also there's gay guys who thinks yaoi is fetishizing they, so yeah there's that too.
