At the start of the story, my favorite character was Ray, because he wasn't just realistic, but considerate and cunning; he was precise and determined. By the end, Emma sapped the "main" out of Ray's character, leaving him as simply a "character." He began to have even less and less influence over the plot than the side characters and went from an independent and stubborn thinker to another yes-man for Emma's whims without any sufficient development in the story to explain this drastic change.
And man, what happened when they spent one year or so in the bunker? what happened in the demons village? how did yugo go from "fuck yall bitches only i'm gonna live" to " hey so i love you and would die for you, you're my new fam" because yes, his death was tragic but because his character development wasn't shown adequately, it was underwhelming.
And I like how the author kills off a couple of important characters to make it seem like there are stakes, but in reality, there are none. Emma runs the show, and everybody else is there to meet her ridiculous expectations. The kids who died in Andrew's hands were a bunch of nobodies in the background.
Considering how long it took the author to write the first arc, maybe he should've given it more time polishing the story before making this manga. I feel like there was so much to explore and better ways to progress the story than we were given, but there just wasn't enough; time, chapters, or depth. (╯°Д °)╯╧╧
