I gotta say my thoughts on the brainwashing of the brothers.
When Reynolds got brainwashed and said all those things i felt sorrow as we were losing a ally, a friend this scene hurt me bc we saw him understanding his wrong doing, apologising for them and trying to be better to fix it to help Penelope. He did some pretty bad thing some of them when he was a kid so i don't think of them being so bad bc they were kids (it doesn't change that what they did was wrong) but bc they were kids their Father should had do something in this situation but he never did over the years so both brothers didn't had reasons to like Penelope or to even trat her well. Bit as we see in the story especially after he find out why Penelope as a xhild didn't want Yvonne to come back he started thinking and understood her. He didn't hate her anymore and understood that what he did over the years was wrong and apologies to her and tried to be agood brother from that point. And even when he was brainwashed he still could break through it and it only worked on him when he was close to him and i would say that it was bc he cared for Penelope and he could somewhat stop himself from even more hurt.
When Derrick got brainwashed my first thought was "of course he did " and i rolled my eyes. I felt that way bc we never saw him doing anything that showed that he cared about Penelope. Even after all that time even when his father told him to be somwhat nic3r to her he didn't. He was always a dick he look at her like she a pest in his house that he can't get rid of. Even after everything that happened he still though of her the same. The only nice thing i can think of that he tried to do was to give her a bird but the way he did it was very condescending and after she refused the gift he got mad and thought that she was ungrateful. After that he didn't tried much. And when Yvonne came he immediately jump to her defence even before he was brainwashed and wanted father to recognise her that second that she showed in the door. Thankfully in that moment Father had a brain and wanted to check first. He even told her to stop throwing tantrum when Penelope wanted to slap Eclise. I know we can't hold theier actions against them when they were brainwashed but i honestly thought that if Yvonne came back he would ruin Penelope party before we knew that Yvonne come through the door or that she could brainwash. He just never cared much for Penelope. Reynolds xould understand that they shouldn't introduce Yvonne on her party but Derrick wanted to do it as soon as possible. I'm not sure if he was brainwashed that time but even if he was it doesn't make it much better bc he go very quickly brainwashed and without her presence needed and as we can ee with Reynolds her brainwashingisn't so full proof and can be broken at times if the person cares enough for Penelope so that would only prove how little Derrick cares. And after his pov saying that ohhh but he cares for her bc he wants to aks about her but can't. Nope just no i would care snd i think most people would if they saw starger vomiting blood and almost dying like come on that barely comon decency. And especially of it's someone you know and i would also want to know are they fine? Alive? So yeah that doesn't show much about him actually caring for Penelope it's just shows that he can be sometimes at least a litte decent person and not a complete ass
