So the Duchess is ml’s stepmother (the reason why she tortured ml). Ml’s mother is an illegitimate daughter of the king that grew up at the former duke’s (ml’s grandfather) house. The duke (ml’s father) love ml’s mother but he hid it because of social humiliation. Ml’s father found ml’s stepmother because she has the same physical things like the same hair color, etc, so married. Ml’s stepmother’s family was poor and in debt so ml’s father gave a mine to the stepmother’s family to get married. Ml’s stepmother didn’t know about ml’s mother and was disappointed and angry.

Ml’s mother died when the ml’s was five and ml’s father was crazy after. Ml’s stepmother started to disciple the ml (aka tortured), and ml’s father knew about it but didn’t do anything about it.

In the end, the crown prince and ml have justice. They forced the king to resign and the crown prince was crowned as the new king (the former king did horrible illegal things and condoned the duchess and the duke because of money). The duchess was arrested, and the duke died naturally but the ml cremated the duke (even criminals weren’t cremated).

And the ml and mc didn’t divorce and live happily ever after.

She called her junior that is acting with her and the MC to bully him because he did not attend the script reading. So all of the minor actors except one ignore the MC, and the adult female lead actor blatantly instigated him.
