I think I know what's going to happen. Adam gets injured in this battle losing his leg and eyes and it's not due to the injection. He can no longer guide Eve because of his injuries and since imprinting is so unknown or knowing how Eve is refusing guiding from anyone else his condition deteriorates so Adam has no choice but to end his life out of love for Eve cause he wants him to survive.
He fails to hang himself and because Eve can read minds he knows what Adam is thinking and manipulates his memory.
I also like to think that he unlocked healing abilities during this to heal Adam's eyes since we know his powers are limitless. And to save himself from grief or to ensure Adam never meets him again so he doesn't suffer through the cycle again, he manipulates his own memory, too.
