He might do lots of crimes, gets retribution, loses the throne, change for the good but loses everything then becomes a commoner, be exiled.
The lighter ver might just be him realising he cannot win Charlotte, gives up, prays for their happiness, and set Arthur free (high chance Arthur doesn’t want to become King) so he’ll stay as King and live life.

I’m glad I already read the novel before the manhwa came out or else I would be having so much mix feelings and frustrations like other readers here. The novel was more slow but very informative of their feelings and thoughts. i think the manhwa couldn’t fully express with limited panel and faster pacing.
