i don't think the genre itself is sexist, especially not as a concept, but i think in most stories it ends up having a lot of sexist undertones.

i've come to hate omegaverse stories, because it's a somewhat interesting concept (and definitely has a lot of potential for interesting and unique storylines) but mostly just ends up being a gateway to sex scenes. and to each their own i guess but it gets a boring after a while.

i think personally i just wish in canon they'd acknowledge the discrimination towards betas and omegas, because in my opinion it'd make it a hell of a lot more interesting. ┑(￣Д ￣)┍

I'm not gonna take anything you say seriously cause I remember you saying that we take 'reference' from fictional yaoi and think that is how real life gay people act.

I didn't say that's how real gay people act. My point is that young and/or naive people who don't know how to connect with others in real life will use fiction as a reference point for what romance should look or feel like. I'm perfectly fine with raunchy smut if it's obvious from the beginning that the point of the work is purely pornographic. But when an author is trying to tell a genuine story, they need to pay attention to what themes and messages their story is about. That way their writing can be consistent and the goal of the story resonates with the audience. If you like abusive couples, that's your preference. I don't think they make for a very good love story.

No specific manga comes to mind right now. Here's where I'm coming from: In my opinion (and I understand this may be a stretch to some), yaoi can sometimes be a surrogate for heterosexual romance. I'm talking about when it's written by straight women for straight women. The purpose is for repressed women to experience and express sexuality in a "safe" way by having a romance between two men. For some women, sex can be intimidating. They can put themselves in the position of one of the male characters (usually the uke/bottom) without feeling threatened. I think this is sometimes the case because the uke are often overfeminized and the seme masculine. The seme takes the (traditionally) male role while the uke takes the female role. I know anime has a different style, but sometimes I see uke that are essentially women with penises. Now, there's nothing wrong with preferring a feminine man and this is all just a theory.

My point is that omegaverse takes this dynamic to a new level, making the uke capable of childbearing and forcing them into an oppressive societal role (depending on the manga.) Omegas are sold as sex slaves at worst, and forced to take medication to control their hormones while alphas do not. Alphas are often given preferential treatment and allowed to do whatever they want with omegas. If the omega follows the "female surrogate" pattern of other yaoi, then it becomes even more problematic since he is literally the female (or child-bearer) in society and is often raped and abused because of the way he was born.

Now, I know there are some great omegaverse manga that don't have this problem. And I'm willing to look past a bad story if the manga is purely for pornographic purposes. But the majority I run into are supposed to be romances about the alpha abusing the omega and taking advantage of his hormonal imbalances. And they often portray it as if the alpha can't control what he's doing. As if we haven't heard enough about how real-life men "can't control" their sexual urges and how their victims were "asking for it."

In short, I want to see less bl and yaoi about abusive, manipulative, and controlling partners.

decent point but it's also kind of unfair to the author to act like they should constantly have to be aware of "young/naive" viewers that MIGHT read their manga and get the wrong idea about gay people. those mangas are most always targeted towards a mature audience, so it isn't really the authors fault if an idiot reads their manga.

How is your opinion controversial? Where is the lie? Omegas are the women, the oppressed people of color and the gay community of this world and satirized in an alternate universe where humans show there true animalism.
