there was a comment on here saying they didn’t want natsuki to be gay too, ‘there is already too many gay people’
i called them out and they deleted their comment
ig i made them realize their own internalized homophobia. LET GAY PEOPLE EXIST

Sure but in this case it is more the category lazy plot writing - please understand me right, I do love the story otherwise I would not read it. And your mentioned cases are totally true but do not fit in this story. They did not actively searched for a community, they are just always „there“ at the right time and happen to be gay. Convenient and not really how life works (in my experience). Still I do love the story even tho it’s convenient.
I just want you to understand that if a person does not like lazy plot writing it does tell nothing about their phobias. I do not like „calling someone out“ without further evidence… that’s all. That’s how mobbing an rumors can start, words are powerful and hurt. Especially if only one self knows it’s not true.
I for myself am not in the slightest homophobic and as I said, I can relate to the statement of this unknown person (with the assumption that it wasn’t any hate speech ;) please let me know if my assumption here is wrong. Hate speeches please do „call out“.
Thank you for taking the time reading my long ass text.

maybe it depends on who you are and idk what kind of life you have, but i’m always surrounded by queer people, my work, and out in public. and that thing about calling people out has to be said. in critical times like these it’s important to call out people. if you happen to not be homophobe that’s awesome, tell me so and move on. the OP that i mentioned could have responded with that, they could have said oh no that’s not what i meant. they just deleted it……..do you see what i’m saying? what i get from your response is “don’t cause a ruckus” “don’t make a big deal out of everything”

sorry to like add on to this thread but i also have like a little thinkpiece abt this situation and need to express my opinion regarding this. i’m not like jumping on you or wtv!! but i feel like people don’t give the equivalent energy of “there is too much gay relationships” to shoujo stories (particularly straight ones). there are many shoujos where the side female charas get together with the side male charas where the relationship is unnecessary or random yet no one is saying “there’s a lot of het relationships here”. it reads a little homophobic to make a qualm abt having too many gay relationships in a story that centers around gay people. i think it’s like wack to say “it’s lazy plot writing” when the whole relationship between the two main characters don’t even have that huge of a plot anyways. (and i mean this with love abt honto yajuu). also it’s completely okay(?) for a character to just be gay and then get into gay relationships because that’s also how real life works? i don’t understand what you mean abt seeking out a community but yeah! it’s nice to see a story where everybody is gay and it’s not weird nor do they need to make a big deal out of it when we see the same story playing out for heterosexual stories. that’s just my opinion.

Understand you and I am with you on that. I differ the plot topic not on genre - I indeed find in other series the plot writing also often very convenient or lazy - one reason why I really fast skip through side story panels. And trust me there are such comments complaining about side couples as well or even when they are straight :) it’s often where our focus lie what we will remember.
But I think my answer gets misunderstood. As I stated I just can relate and I just do not like to see statements as black and white jumping to conclusions and framing someone without asking about his intend beforehand. That was all I stated from the beginning. I mean, homophobia is a strong declaration isn’t it. And I just wanted to show that there CAN be more to it, why a person comments such thing… nothing else

So, I have a bunch of gay friends and some of my cousins are happily married lesbians. I’ve had sexual encounters with both genders, personally feel like I don’t like sex with any gender (ace). I take a lot of pride in being an American who believes gays deserve equal happiness to everyone else.
As an American I believe in equality and I also believe in representation of minority groups..
Representation…
In my own opinion, I find that groups who need representation (because they’re under represented in society) have a tendency to respond as if they’re being oppressed when a person points out the statistical inaccuracy of a minority group appearing as a majority in a story.
From the perspective of the person complaining there’s a lack of realism. If we just go strictly by numbers, gays are a minority (no matter which type they are). They do not make up a third of the population, let alone half, or the majority. So when every character and their uncle, plus their nephew, the neighbor’s friend, the neighbor himself, all the random store employees, and even the local stray dogs are ALL secretly gay, it feels unrealistic to some people, including me. Sure there’s plenty of gay people around in reality, but it’s weird when the majority of everyone in the story is coincidentally gay.
Even more so because the story is taking place in Japan. Not Ni-chome or anything, just Japan in general. Not to mention the time period when story takes place. You can kind of gauge when that is when you look at people’s technology. Half the story takes place in the early 2000s.
The person making the complaint isn’t complaining because they dislike gays, they’re just complaining because they were expecting realism from the story.
On the other hand a gay person reading it might be expecting it to be a promotional story, or a representative work. The genre is gay to them, (because it’s BL) while the genre is romance to the other person. So, while one is unhappy that they’re pro-gay genre is not being used to promote gayness in the story, the other person thinks it would be just a nice story without making most main characters gay because GAY is just a normal thing.
I would think it was strange of every character in the American story was African-American. I wouldn’t think it was strange at all, if the story were taking place in Africa, but I would find it odd if everyone were African-American, if the story took place in Florida. Just because it’s unrealistic for every person that you encounter to be African-American in Florida. So for the person who is reading it as a love story, not really paying much attention to the gay aspect, it’s weird when everyone is gay.
I don’t think that perspective makes anybody a homophobe or a mild homophobe I think it just makes them a realist
so that’s how i should summon brother qui. i still need to top him
