There’s no reason he can’t just straight up apologize to his wife. You just need to say “I’m sorry for doing [blank]. I know I caused you pain and made you feel like [blank] because of [blank]. I will work on becoming better for your sake by doing [blank]. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to improve as a partner.” And bam, you’re done with the apology. Then you work on being better. You don’t need to try to justify your actions with backstory. In fact, that would be a bullshit apology because it’s basically trying to excuse your behavior. Trauma doesn’t give you a free pass to be a shitty person to others. Particularly if they have absolutely no direct contribution to how you earned your trauma. Be better (╬￣皿￣)凸

She’s literally doing the exact opposite of what she told the saintess she wanted to do (ie not change the original story). She’s trying to give good ole daddy-o here a book to prevent og mc from running away in the future. But that’s literally a huge plot point in the original story!!! I understand that, ultimately, she is working to change the story for the better but the immediate dishonesty within this newly formed friendship rubs me the wrong way. Like either there’s some huge cognitive dissonance going on or she’s purposefully lying to the saintess. Did I miss an inner monologue where she talked about not being honest with the saintess on purpose or something? Or has she fully convinced herself that her actions have no bearing on the original story?
The fl has convinced herself that if she takes out all the angsty parts that hurt the ogheroine the main story can still go on if she guides it in the direction of the original :/
