    I think it depends on the Japanese word used, but I think "I like you" is the same or even better than "I love you". The last one is so overused that I think it lost all meaning behind it. Both my partner and I deeply love each other but we say "I like/adore you so much" because it’s not even the words that count, it’s the actions! "I love you" sometimes has no meaning, it’s an empty affirmation. So many ppl say it and they go around cheating on the person they say they love…

    Culturally, it’s not normal to say love as often and freely as we say it here. Their “like” could be placed in a similar significance because of that, but love on the other hand is incredibly meaningful and rare to say that not even a couple says it every time

    nope in japan people usually reserve the word “love” for family members or really close loved ones
