I believe it's because most of the Japanese people have no idea of the reality of Middle-Eastern, North African et al. countries. Disney's Aladdin is the widest known media/source that represents 'Arabic' culture in Japan. I remember during my exchange in a Japanese High School that a girl held a presentation in class about...I think it was Azerbaijan?, and she showed some pictures of the architecture. The reactions were: Oh my god, it looks like Disney(land). So yeah, Japanese have this exotic, fantastic, stereotypical image of that part of the world.
Well we all know that but when they’re going to create a story about these culture they should actually do research. I’m kinda tired of people defending these lowkey racist ideas which are very widely spread in Japan. We have the internet and the same way western media should represent its minorities accurate so should people over there by doing some actual research and doing their job well.
