is the author like. intentionally writing MC to be unlikeable? bc so far she's shown to be cold and like not at all a good person. bc i kinda get it if she's meant to be written as a character of her time, where she doesn't care about the lower-class and is in an unloveable marriage, but since i can't tell if her moral bankruptcy is written on purpose, it makes me uneasy to read more about her. bc if she's written as a protag that we're supposed to root for, it makes me not wanna read more. but if she's written as a protag that is obviously not a good person and nobody thinks she is, then it makes for an interesting character.

i remember reading this years ago and im rereading it now and im realizing how much i actually dislike everyone but taemin and siwoon. like both of them were srsly fucked over by everyone around them, and neither one of their own troubles and trauma were ever really acknowledged. not even taemin, who just moves on from all of it with the idea that any troubles he face were simply either shit he just gotta get over, or faults of his own.

first couple chapters i thought this was a stereotypical, power fantasy, narcissistic male mc with badly written female characters. 22 chapters in and it's still that but it's self-aware AND it at least makes fun of itself (like wtf is up with the soldier background character who's just making tents lol). and the women aren't badly written nor centered around mc, if anything, mc is just everyone's glorified babysitter

HOLY FUCK i am actually SO excited to see what happens next. i legit thought these past couple chapters were gonna be a death flag for reaper, i didn't know it was gonna be all of THIS. like i was interested to see how cha minwoo learns about human emotions, especially things such as love, and i thought the author was going to kill off reaper at the peak of cha minwoo's emotional development to really exemplify to him how important love, emotion, and human connection is. BUT I GUESS BETRAYAL WORKS TOO LIKE THIS IS WAY MORE INTERESTING THAN JUST A CHARACTER DEATH LOL

ngl, MC feels kinda empty in this one. so does the rest of the world outside of the game.

the secretary and mom has gotta be some of my favorite characters in this story. like i genuinely couldn't really get a grasp on their dynamic with yoosung at first, and i'm actually really pleased to see how they turned out- especially the mom (like i like how she's been established from the beginning that she has no longlasting empathy or affection towards even her own kids, and can easily give up any previous affection towards her kids the moment they get in her way. and i like how that never really changes even when her relationship with her sons change into something beneficial towards her. and i think it's interesting how that seems to be in her nature, yet she still shows sympathy but no affection towards things that she feels to be on equal standing with her, such as her 2nd husband or her brother who died).
