bruh im teaching metric and US customary units to a bunch of kids rn, and it's so bad. i wish america would just drop the customary units LOL. ngl, this author is onto smth

ya, but it's like in the same society, it's pretty uncommon to see two currencies made up of very different materials used on the same level of trade. like even if two currencies can coexist in the same culture, if one is made out of a drastically cheaper material than the other, then it's basically impossible for the majority of people to use both of them interchangeably in the same culture, since the rate of exchange would be WAY too different.

bc then the rich gangster trying to take over the herb gatherer's land is either giving this dude like slips of paper that cost money even if they're in bands, or this entire story is implying that a stack of paper cash is going to be at the same exchange rate as a bag of gold coins, when one is reproducable at a cheap level of material and printing process while the other requires way more labor intensive gathering and reproduction.

imma be so fr w you, i just can't get behind the world setting that it's actually distracting. like wdym ppl are just out here killing whole groups out in the street? where tf is the government?? even if the new sects are super powerful and cruel towards old sects, why are they just killing random old sect ppl? like the cleanup of bodies, loss of populations (and employees, workers, etc), and loss of economic input/output is kinda crazy? like i actually just cannot understand how this society even functioned in the first chapter to the point where they had like, normal buildings and stuff, that i cannot get immersed
he's like when kids in their prepubescent, hormonal phases have a favorite babysitter
