You have way more faith in the mangaka's writing abilities than I. Almost every arch since vol.2 has had drama and dubcon because one of the couples still has unresolved feelings for someone. unless Natsuki invents another couple for the next story she has to go back to mafuyu/uenoyama, and the best way to generate drama between those two is through Yuki.
Uenoyama is starting to get pissed while Mafuyu is daydreaming more about Yuki than being concerned for his actual/ living boyfriend. It's not hard to see where this is gonna go.
Is it lazy writing? Sure, but why start putting in the effort now. But who knows, maybe I'll be wrong.

Man, the author has really butchered this series by dragging it out this much, almost all of Mafuyu’s development has gone down the tube by bringing up Yuki and milking the suicide this much after vol.2

It's interesting thus far, but I hope the author avoids the usual cliche's of powerplay BL, namely having the uke reduced to a shivering maiden by the sheer charisma of the seme when it comes time for the sexy scenes. It works well for the initial encounter, but can get pretty frustrating and predictable if there's no growth beyond that dynamic.
Also, for those hoping for a reversible, it's probably not gonna happen.
