I initially dismissed this manhwa as an "Anti P.T." knockoff when I first started reading it over a year ago. I decided to give it another shot now that it's complete....and it has earned a spot on my ultimate favorites list.
From plot concept to character design and personalities, this is like a combination of "Dear Door" and "Anti P.T." (two stories I LOVE) - but only in the absolute best ways possible.
Beautiful balance of comedy and emotion. Simultaneously deep and lighthearted. Every character is perfectly imperfect and I adore them. The communication and character development is also *chef's kiss*
Can't forget to mention the art! The art and the sex is absolutely fantastic.
I laughed, I cried, I became incredibly aroused....it's perfect xD
(Also I am now waiting for my own "Lotus" to drop into my back yard any day now. Aaaaaany day now ┗( T﹏T )┛ )
*Me over here laughing to myself cuz people who still prefer Mr. Han probably didn't read the raws* lol
Hwi all the way <3
Spoilers:
I don't want to spoil it too much, but I'll say in the upcoming chapters, the author starts to gradually build up contrast between the two love interests - creating positive relationship development between Hwi and Param, while Mr. Han starts showing his true colors.
It'll build up to a (AWESOMELY DONE - Bravo, author!) string of side-by-side sex scenes, contrasting Hwi's tenderness with Param, vs Mr. Han's aggression and disrespect towards the guy he's using as a temporary replacement for Param.
The whole section almost certainly solidifies the author's intention for Param to end up with Hwi, and foreshadows a lot of potential trouble for Param regarding Mr. Han.
It was very well done in my opinion. It was a gradual and subtle build-up of contrast for both parties, so it's not at all like the usual situation where it goes from 0-100 out of nowhere to make the rival look bad.
I have absolutely no complaints with how the author has handled it so far - the best I've seen it done in yaoi manga, actually.
Oh no, I didn't read the raws myself. Bu I thought, basing in your words, that's it's gonna go really black and white. And I'm not a fan of such an obvious, unbalanced rivalry.
Although all of us know MC is gonna end up wit Hwi. But I'm not a fan of destroying and degradating rival just to make relationship of MCs valid.
Yea - I totally understand and agree. But rest assured, it ain't so xD
Even though we all know it'll be Hwi, and even despite all the contrast presented, the author is still playing things out in a way that keeps me feeling the tug-of-war over Param. Definitely not so black and white, fortunately. Both Hwi and Mr. Han have their faults.
However, the validity of Param and Hwi's relationship isn't dependent on Mr. Han. Even if he wasn't in the picture at all, they're still steadily progressing and developing a great relationship on their own - which is great.
I think we can all agree that the author basically took almost every yaoi cliche and randomly shoved it into this plot wherever they could find room xD
Even the title...like, what???
HOWEVER.
Plot aside, the art is great and Atsushi and Tsukasa are cute AF. I really enjoyed their moments together and I actually felt their love for each other - which is not something every yaoi manga achieves.
Considering there's a lot worse shit out there packed with rape (which this manga does not include), I think this manga's current low rating is rather unfair.
Aside from how this started.....I'm surprised at the direction this manga took. I certainly wasn't expecting it to get deep - but it did (showcasing anxiety, panic attack, childhood trauma, etc). These two really are perfect for each other.
The only thing I feel it lacking is more of Chihiro's backstory. It almost seemed implied that he was aware of Ryu's existence and cared about him before they ever met. Chihiro caring so deeply for Ryu so early on seemed to come out of nowhere, whereas Ryu was shown gradually falling for Chihiro over time.
Idk...I kept feeling like I was missing something and was waiting for an information bomb to drop that never happened.
Regardless, I enjoyed it.
I seriously LOVE the art and the characters. The author really set this up in a way that it could easily transition into a full-blown series. So much character and world background to explore, so much relationship development to be had. I really hope the author gets enough support and decides to expand on this AWESOME foundation <3
