I was dissatisfied with this story and how it handled development for Minho and Wookyung so I've written a full-length, ongoing bl fanfic specifically for them to hopefully do their characters some justice. Yes, with backstories, depth, ambitions, flaws, families, past, future and definite arcs.

It's called ALL BARK NO BITE and it's on Wattpad under tags for fanfiction, sadistic beauty and bdsm. This is my first fic and I've really given it my all. 30 chapters have already been published and many more are coming. (spoiler alert) He never hit her back in college, but he slapped her once in her hotel room when she was talking smack to him and it triggered him. That was irretrievably wrong but then also, he got raped as a "punishment" right after he did that so we know exactly why that hitting scene was necessary. Author makes him act out now and then to justify the rape, assault and humiliation he suffers right after, as part of "discipline". I also hated it when he hit Haesol but then author really only did that to make his suicide-ankle breaking-assault look justified. Because "he hit her" or "he hit someone weaker" is supposed to make you more uncomfortable than "she raped him" or "forced him to watch sex against his will" when all are disgusting but author's bias was evident. Minho's acting out is punishable by extreme measures but mc and Wookyung, the actual villain, go scot free. It's surprising how Minho's never mean when he doesn't have to be raped because of it. I really felt like he was the only redeemable character because he always acted out when he got triggered or was insecure because of his body, financial stature and circumstances. He himself didn't belief the discrimination he projected as he admitted in the final chapters so his behaviour is clearly socially influenced but I guess that's the story author wants to sell. May the growth arcs we expected from the characters in SB rip.

To the people in the comments, who have had to deal with a certain user telling them that they're being hateful, moralistic, misogynistic, antis for disliking mc, being angry over the ending or demanding that the author do better, your opinion holds weight because rape is never a joke. That said, we now know that SB used rape as part of humiliation and complete break of a certain character and no, I am not insisting that author change her story but rather recognise that what was done to Byun Minho was rape up till the final chapters and not hail the mc as a bdsm queen or sexy dominatrix.

The utter tone deafness of using rape, a problem that plagues women more than anyone, to one-up a female character in a story that so blatantly tries to be feminist in it's approach was disappointing. Plus having her face no consequences for it and in turn being rewarded with professional success, a devoted slave etc really shows that the author sees people in terms of who can be shown getting raped and who cannot. And yes Byun Minho, Yang Gyerin, Woo Haesol and Cha Wookyung were also raped. Even if verbal consent is not involved, physical cues practically don't exist in SB.

For the Gyerin-Haesol scene (straight guy forced on a lesbian while both are visibly uncomfortable), all of Haesol's scenes (no consent, no aftercare), all of Minho's scenes (rape, forced penetration, unwanted humiliation, no aftercare) and yes, with Wookyung too (forced oral sex). Wookyung himself doesn't practice consensual sex and is pretty screwed up so I don't know why we think that his and MC's scenes are going to be consensual since they are both sadistic rapists and regularly cross boundaries. Even though he's the psychopathic villain, WOOKYUNG WAS VIOLATED TOO (check ep 81-82), so no exception there.

It is okay to feel uncomfortable when a story tries so hard to make you empathize with a rapist while simultaneously punishing the rape victim with more rape and violence with not even a note of cognizance is passed by the writer who simply assumes that if a woman is criticised then she is justified in her revenge, 10 years later by rape actually what am I saying, mc is a perpetual rapist. Even the people she likes suffer from her selfishness.

I know rape is a constant in manhuaverse but let's not normalise it under the guise of "others do it too, why should women be hated for it?" rape is not gender specific and rapists who are glorified instead of being tackled carefully as problematic characters as part of a dark/psychological/rape fantasy. Nothing wrong in writing whatever you want but if you misrepresent, exploit or fail to address THE KEY THEMES that your work is about then yes, readers have every right to hate your idealogy and your work. SB picked up BDSM, Feminism, LGBTQIA and failed to even properly lay out the MOST BASIC FRAMEWORK of those concepts, sufficiently disappointing the communities as well.

Lastly, people have different tolerance levels. I am very sensitive to themes like abuse, humiliation, rape, assault and violence therefore this work becomes more vile for me with time. There are others who are able to digest the same content without needing the still necessary disclaimers but as the former, please don't let some callous idiot tell you that your feelings regarding the story are over the top/ you're projecting/ being unfair whatever.

Author wrote him as a pure object of fetish, that's why. Large, independent, arrogant but beautiful man who repeatedly puts himself in a position of vulnerability for the mc to exploit, rape, abuse and feel good about. That's why d* keeps talking like "this tall, arrogant man... is kneeling in front of me? Is asking for my help?" and the like. If Minho was rich (like Wookyung), had friends (like Haesol), or family to fall back on (like d*), we wouldn't be having so many of his rape scenes at mc's hands. He also seemingly has no psychological impact from the verbal and physical abuse he faced at every step. Think about the girls making fun of his erectile dysfunction, Wookyung beating him up, Haesol belittling him, mc doing all that to him, his batchmates clowning him for begging in front of the Dean, him having no friends, living in poverty for so long, being insecure, having no family or friends. I mean if d* had trauma from the harsh criticism she faced 10 years ago, we can have a (much greater) mental health discourse for Minho's character as well.

He's written as a blank page only for the twisted fantasy of the female mc, that no matter what happens, he only has her and will only turn to her, even if this implies that he'll have to get assaulted. Author also purposely doesn't show him being traumatised (like Haesol was when d* choked him) so people are unable to fathom the actual impact of the abuse he's facing. This is very common in hentai, think of beautiful girls who get repeatedly put in a position of abuse no matter how successful or independent they are. They don't ever seriously acknowledge that they are being raped and always proceed to enjoy it all for the pleasure of the viewer via the eyes of the rapist. Hence how Minho only "gets hard" with d* and only cums when she's raping him. Sb was supposed to be a story for exploration of these characters because that's how it put itself across. Strong flawed woman faces man who criticised her and finds love but alas it's actually just another trashy ass hentai story that got me involved for too fucking long with 0 payback.
