I still don't know who's the uke and seme in their relationship... I think it might be Ha Hyunje is the seme...

I get that but you shouldn't, it's not realistic and it's fetishizing gay relationships, especially the terms seme and uke that aren't used by the Japanese gay community and the meaning is pretty sexist and homophobic. There are top/bottom relationships but it's reductive to see it like that. I hope this helps to you understand ٩(๑❛ᴗ❛๑)۶

Disagree. I have a pretty healthy separation of fiction and reality, if you can't separate gay fictional couples and irl people then you have a mental problem. Also don't ya pull the "I'm queer" card lol most of us here are too, and most fujoshis are probably queer women or closeted gay transmasc people.

Don't get me wrong I don't think it's problematic in any way to read bl/gl but not everyone can "separate". I used fujoshi because the culture attached to the name is one of fetishizing (irl people too) and the terms uke/seme are sexist and homophobic
and not everyone knows how and why, i don't think they have a "mental problem" but there's definitely a lot of minors here who encounter queer stuff for the first time and I see nothing wrong with chiming in and clarify stuff. Op was confused about being told that the terms were obsolete I just said why. I don't know why you felt like I was attacking the people reading queer content on here but that's not what I meant to do, sorry

Cool lol but just a correction fujoshi literally means "girl who likes BL" in Japan and East Asia, there's nothing about fetishizing attached to it. The idea of fujoshis being gross fetishizers is a misogynistic phenomenon in Western culture which is frankly, also racist because people are appropriating and twisting the meaning of a Japanese word.

Queer media, while I think that's not good and all a lot of people identify with the term because they think gay relationships are "better" and "hot" and stuff and I'd rather not use a term that either means that it's perverted for women to enjoy lgbt stuff or it's because they have a fetish for gay people

Girl don't listen to those who preach like they know everything & think they're better bc of it. Express your thoughts, this is only FICTIONAL characters, and of course as a girl we know really well that doesn't represent reality. As if girls in shounen, shoujo & hentai represent women :o My gosh, they should stop being so serious abt that and try to educate the intolerant brats IRL not the readers that jsut read for some fun!

Okay everyone, here is an ACTUAL explanation behind the word “fujoshi” so we can get rid of these misconceptions. Fujoshi means “rotten girl”. This is not something that BL creators or fans referred to themselves as from the beginning though. It was a term used to criticize the new genre and was used by people (generally old men) to shame the creators of BL. They were called rotten because they were seen as unattractive and unable to get married because men wouldn’t want a wife like that. Ripe = able to get married, rotten = unable to get married. Later BL creators and fans started referring to themselves as fujoshi as a way to reclaim the term, which proved to be quite successful. Similarly seme and uke stem from martial arts where seme means “to attack” and uke means “to receive”. If we look back at early works of BL it’s understandable why these terms were used: the seme would almost always be the dominant person in the relationship and would therefore “attack” the uke in bed, whilst the uke was portrayed as being submissive and would “receive” the seme’s attacks. While this could seem problematic nowadays it’s important to remember that the words have been so ingrained in not just BL, but otaku culture in general, that it’s the exact same thing as saying top or bottom. Especially western audiences that doesn’t have an understanding of the origins of the words wouldn’t necessarily associate the words with something negative. This is only used in fiction though and real life gay men in Japan will refer to themselves as neko = bottom, and tachi =seme.
This has been a rant, but I just think it’s important to explain. Lastly, I don’t think as a western audience (or really anywhere outside of Japan) that we get a say in what kinds of words the Japanese BL community tends to use ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭
