I remember reading this years ago and now I'm reading it again. As much as hotheaded the Hitoe is, she keeps on improving as well cause of Aika. They both grow up. They're opposite but they impact each others lives. And whether they actually do end up together or no, is left to the viewers to decide.

Idk, it's just speculations that the manga sometimes hints that it'll eventually go that way with Mikoshiba dead and Usaki still alive and maybe become the captain or vice captain.
