This novel takes a different approach when it comes to the toxic/obsessive ML having feelings for the MC. While others fall in love with the ML despite the painful things they go through with them, the MC here loves and cares for the ML because he's his disciple. He's his parental figure.
In both the past and present, his character remains the same, resilient, sometimes afraid but still taking risks because he cares for the ML's welfare. Everything that happens in the present is connected to the past. In their past, ML was so toxic that MC lost his voice and legs, was confined, and r*ped. ML has done something that makes you DESPISE him. He's so obsessed... that he'll kill those who wants to get near with MC or harm him. DESPITE the fact that the MC doesn't like the ML romantically, again, he cares for and loves him. Later on, MC's feelings change in the present, he even questions himself if he really likes him or not, knowing they had history, but of course he didn't know ML's feelings were one-sided in their past.. ML, who's still toxic but not to that extent, also falls in love again, and it was him who fell first, and MC falls harder. (Both of them fell harder) That's why, this time, it's the MC's turn to do something to save him and protect him, so he won't go astray again.
