This situation actually feels so familiar to me. The ML has suffered all his life so he feels like the FL the princess has been pampered and will never understand but he doesn't has a clue about the things the FL has suffered through because OF HIM and his attitude, which has made the people around her treat her as less than dirt
Tbh I don't think the ML is too bad. Just 'cause I think he DOESN'T KNOW.
He doesn't know about how the aristocratic society works
how his actions affect his wife's treatment
the extent of his wife's mistreatment
who is responsible for her mistreatment, etc etc
just like how she doesn't know what her husband went through
how he is constantly being looked down upon by others in his business arena trying to exploit his weaknesses
constantly trying his best to make money for his wife etc, etc..
But a very big difference here is though that yeah neither of them know the other's situation, the FL has always tried to understand she has tried to help the ML never tried, he has just been increasingly mean to her knowing full well that it was not her fault. The ML is so consumed in what has happened to him that he has completely failed to open and see the things that are happening around him and for me that makes the ML quite shitty
