Even though I love this mangaka and I've been enjoying this manga very much, somehow the portrayal of Chinese people as criminals, drug addicts and rapists doesn't sit right with me when it comes from a Japanese author and especially given the historical context of the story (sorry if it's disrespectful for me to bring it up but I think we all know what the Japanese army was up to just a few years later).
And like, yeah, I guess it does a good job showing that people were horrible to immigrants but Jesus Christ why does it also feel like it's trying to make it seem like it was justified in a sense.
I don't know, man, maybe it's just me who feels this way, but maybe they didn't think this one through.
Sorry if I sound kinda preachy, that's not my intention. I just wanted to get this off my chest.
And before anyone says anything, I am aware that this is just ero manga and it shouldn't have to be this deep lmao sorry
Authors are always threading on thin ice when they make such controversial topics on other countries' people. But I personally don't think it's that bad, as they showed the animosity and monsters on both sides. However we saw some respectable American people but none Chinese ones, which is a bit unbalanced. It could be that the author simply didn't think too deeply into it, or didn't have enough pages and time to portray that.

Agreed. There was no sense of community showcased in China Town, except for being heralded as a place you shouldn't visit, an 'Other'. Maybe a chapter of Lin Che and Elliot exploring China Town and interacting positively with other Chinese characters would have been nice.
Like, you know those stories with the trashy romantic interest who you know will end up with the protagonist despite his actions? This feels like that from the perspective of, duh, the second male lead who is a better option lol

I'm glad Hideto was actually dead. So many manga like this have the "No, wait, he wasn't actually dead he was in a coma" cliché and it’s kind of refreshing seing a manga where they don't try to deceive you with the premise.
I'm also very glad that Yuugen didn't die? Like??? I was afraid they would kill him (from like a cold or something) and have them both be reborn together.
The way it is written leaves a higher impact (at least for me). I also quite like the message that even if you are struck by tragedy you can still go on and try to live your best life.

I read this on mrm and a lot of the comments kept trying to say "oh maybe he's just in a coma, he's not really dead" and I'm over here like "DID YOU NOT SEE THE NEWS LITERALLY REPORTING HIS DEATH TO THE ENTIRETY OF JAPAN, HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY LITERALLY GREIVING HIS PASSING" lololol. But yeah, I'm glad it didn't go the coma route.
