This is based on the novel so some changes may happen on the webtoon adaptation. Yansheng will actually sacrifice his life for Niannian once he discovers the truth. I actually pitied him a lot when it happened but he deserves to suffer. He got ill too and he kept his distance from Niannian because he knows that he will just harm Niannian but when Niannian knew about this, he started longing for Yansheng and they eventually ended up together again and remarried.
