I'm intrigued. There hasn't been any real delve into their past yet, but it's pretty obvious these two have been awful to each other...for a while now. It seems like such a toxic relationship, even if they do love each other. As for blase Mr. Photographer, hmm, no exact thoughts yet...but he also seems like low-key trash.
I'm not going to be half so eloquent and many of these comments. But I just wanted to express how much I appreciate the honest and really poignant way the author was able to display love, loss, grief and so many other emotions without a fanfare display of gratuitous drama.
Yes, there were big declarations, dramatic events and miscommunication but none of this felt as though it was done with the intention of 'plot movement'. Rather, we're watching characters display really sincere emotions to the situations they face and to the people love. And that, I found really lovely. It's nice when you're able to take away something from the stories you read.
What's wrong with the main character? Why is she so nasty and belittling? Like it actually bothers me alot. And I find the strange dichotomy between her obviously having some feminist ideals of women being independent/hard-working e.g., getting angry at the taxi driver and assuming the guy was saying she should cook/clean but feels the need to lie and say he's her cousin, because god fobid someone find out she's living with a "strange man" whilst not married.
I've seen that weird schtick in alot of Korean webtoons and it still to this day really really bothers me. There's something in that strange assumption that is so deeply riddled with misogyny and it's casual use....idk. Sorry to get deep ahaah.
I honestly think it must be a translation issue. It's not grammar so to speak, it's like whatever meaning that's meant to come through is not entirely being conveyed. Because that last chapter I just read made honest to god no sense.
Like I don't get how he went from "you're lying I didn't know you" to "I remember now and i like u back" in the span of a chapter. And why is MC so guilty? I get harbouring some emotions of guilt due to his parent's involvement, but surely as a grown adult, you could rationalise it all little better. Especially if you got a pretty horrendous childhood injury as a result from this person. Idk I'm so confused.
Man, this is gonna be my soapbox, I'm sorry in advance. Isn't it interesting how every second comment on here is mentioning how much they hate Sooah, how awful she is, how terrible how blah blah blah, especially compared to Mirae.
At the very least, try, just, try to interpret the message the author is trying to get across. Which is how women are valued based on their looks and their behaviours (and how that behaviour conforms to certain standards) in a way the men are NOT.
So we've got Sooah, who at this point in the story hasn't really done anything wrong (She hasn't necessarily done anything "nice" either - but whatever). We've had multiple hints that she may have some internalised issues e.g., walking excessively far for exercise, weighing herself, saying some problematic things (woman should do what men like oppa!1!).
Then we've got Mirae, who due to being called ugly her whole life has gotten a ton of surgery (but can't win anyway, because apparently, that's not desirable either) and rates peoples looks in her head, is abit of a pushover, but arguably nice. Who's more vain? Who's worse? Who's better? Who do we want to end up happy?
Or, maybe, just maybe, these aren't things we're meant to consider. Both of these women have had experiences in their lives which have taught them that looking and acting in a certain way is how they will gain value as a human being. Sooah, as the "pretty *nice* natural girl that men like" and Mirae as the conventionally "beautiful girl". None of these issues have been brought up with any of the male characters. Which is especially shown during that fuck fest of a festival. I get this is a story, and I get we want to root for the main character, but it would be cool if people really examined the toxicity of pitting women against each other in some weird competition. Its gross.
Regarding the untranslated chapter: My Thoughts So Far: A Tedtalk lol

I'm not sure about whether J wants to be topped or not (don't think he cares) as people are suggesting, but I think it's all just word games/tests for Mako, like D implies.
He does offer to top Mako (i.e., the 'reward') and even gets like confused/amused when Mako was like 'embrace me' - which he thought meant let's have normal sex. And when Mako only wants to be hugged he low key like fails the test - but doesn't, because he's resistant to being manipulated? I think he enjoys that Mako is unexpected.
He does say earlier in a chapter 'want to see if you can bear demon children...I could even decapitate you and let you watch while your body is violated' - so I think it's a continuation of the reward so to speak. Like fulfilling Mako's sexual gratification...but also manipulating and pushing him to show dominance, but with the expectation Mako will later challenge it (and maybe succeed?...idk, we will see).
I think J wants and likes a challenge - perhaps he's bored, but he's obviously brought a number of humans over to the demon world, who have all failed to become this sort of adversary/plaything/lover he wants. including D - Who he implies he brought over too, but even though D is obviously a successful demon he says it's a pity he 'settling'. Which is interesting in itself - because D thinks he's stood the test of time - but perhaps through...obedience, which isn't what J desires (or not? Again..we will see).
As for the rape - it's literally one of the only mangas I'm going to go ahead and say it's genuinely ok (don't get me started on consent and yaoi lol). Like the premise of the manga is Mako being all sad he literally can't murder, eat and fuck dead bodies lol. I'm going to say the whole fuckedupness feeds into that idea of demon hedonism and Mako's sexual gratification (what helps/makes him fit in to the profile of being a demon?). This manga isn't needlessly gratuitously violent or vulgar - it just depicts demons in an interesting manner - I'm going to go out on a limb and say consent is abit iffy yes - but Mako quite literally signed over his life, so J can do what will, so to speak. Including hiring a pokemon demon to have sex with Mako's decapitated body while Mako's head comes in his lap lol.
thank you you have just said what i have been meaning to say about this manga.
Ahahaha thats right pokemon demon
