I'm pretty sure that in the first couple of chapters when they met(Soohoo and Taker) Taker made it obvious that he wanted Soohoo's soul. I think it was in a monologue with himself or in a talk with the chief. Ngl I forget things from the beginning chapters too but they resurface when time calls for it.
