at least the empress has a notion that shes in the wrong—thats why shes so paranoid all the time.
the emperor, on the other hand, thinks hes so fucking holy for not being overtly abusive and always taking the cowards way out. he hasnt even considered the possibility that hes responsible for this situation that everyones been put in.

even the wording of targets makes it seem like jerry is the one pursuing ilya
(also my mind is also amazing cuz i predicted that ilya could directly interact with, defy, and change the system like ten chapters ago)
i was convinced the author was allergic to happy ending for a second but they gave us a complex, realistic, yet hopeful lens of queer relationships!!!
