He was being treated like a dog (he has something in his mouth like a thing to prevent dog from barking) he lived his life like an animal I think. And in that Jail cell shavonne is also there as a guard but I dont know if he sees lewellyn as a dog or human because whenever he sees lewellyn in his POV a dog is also appearing (I think he have some mental issues thats why he doesn't remember lewellyn) Hes also the one who taught lewellyn how to peel onions

Llewellyn in that part thinks of himself as a dog. Since that's how he's been treated so he lacks human common sense and reasoning. MC tries to give him his handkerchief to wipe blood but he tears it up so MC tells him that even tho people say he's a dog, he's not one.
