That's not him being an asshole, that him being right. Girls weren't allowed to touch men with their bare hands or be touched by them. It means they lost their purity and as a severant it's his duty.

I know that in the past, morals were different and that people around him would have seen that as right. It's why I said "even if it's a norm in your society."

I don't view it as okay but that it was 'right' for it's time, the environment they grew up in and was the reality it used to be, calling him an asshole/bastard and holding him accountable for 'protecting' her 'purity' is quite silly. That's his duty as her severant, he's aware how the society will view this journey as sad/disgusting as it is. Travelling with men other than your husband and father was a huge taboo and disgrace.

I think that judging what is and isn't right based on the morals people followed at the time is quite flawed. E.g. slavery, rape within marriage, racial segregation, anti-gay everything. It might have been believed to be 'right' however, we, the people who live in the modern-day and age, hold widely different views. I think that forgetting modern morals, and agreeing with whatever was right at X time, is quite silly.

The princess is already traveling with men she isn't related to and a bro would have done this wonderful thing called "lying" to other people. It's what the good people who hid those prosecuted by the Nazis did, they lied to protect those who were discriminated against.

Look, we both know that we are gonna all go "UWU, let's forget about this cuz cool male lead" at the end. But let's also be realistic, monitoring who a woman does or doesn't have sex with is sexist. And even though, it was viewed as 'right'. almost all people living in the past were sexist, racist, homophobic, ableist, and immoral in some other way (based on popular modern ethical ideas.) Sure, it was "right" back then, but it is not now and we live in the modern-day and age and hold modern ideas of what is and isn't right/good/ethical.

If we judge a person by the morals supported at the time during which they have lived, you're gonna have to defend a lot of people who we now consider to be bad/evil.

Furthermore, if we accept whatever is moral at any time and make an "it was accepted in your society so you're still good" pass, then there would be no reason for us as a society to change our moral view (it could be argued that doing so is evil as it's going against consensus), we would stay in a constant and would still be doing a lot of the things we don't approve of.

What you're saying is at best an excuse, it does not justify or make the past moral/good by moral standards.

For me it's actually quite interesting that the author threw this in and decided to be a little historically accurate (which i'm sure will change thankfully) bc usually the ML in period webtoons are (unrealistic) 'mordern' men. It was a sick mentality back than but thankfully we moved passed that.

The thing is that I get what you're saying, it's pretty plain and basic so it was very easy to understand. Honestly, at first, I found you to be quite condescending in an ironic way because to me your point is the most obvious thing ever (on top of that I addressed that in my initial comment).

Getting my point isn't hard, it just takes a bit of thinking. While your point was simple, some arguments/ways of thinking can be more complex and harder to understand. Most people would have been able to understand it with ease, but since you found it hard, I did my best to make it as easy/obvious to understand as possible. The fancy 'let's judge them by today's standards' argument you're trying to deliver, combined with weird personal assumptions that were never up for debate, isn't that complex (it's pretty white), it's as basic as a picture book but keeps getting lost in your repeating paragraphs as if you've non. You don't deliver your point across despite using multiple pompous phrasings and throwing in some wild comparisons wasn't in your favor. It's clear that you see the world morally correct and white.
