It's actually pretty good
I agree that it's well-written but the brothers' relationship is wildly unhealthy and Hyou's violent actions are not motivated (at least not primarily) by a desire to protect. He's just using the "protection" thing as an excuse so he doesn't have to admit to himself that he's a sadistic motherfucker. (And I'm using "sadistic" in the psychiatric sense here.) I don't agree with the so-called haters on the censorship issue but they definitely haven't misunderstood what's going on here.
Initially he did but it turned into "die as a champion, live long enough to become the villain". He is following up on his hated father's footsteps. Classic abuse cycle :-/
