why the old man acting so weird ? why do I feel like the kid is already dead? since the early chapters it did show that he has a cold with a face mask on.
1) The kid had a weak immune system.
2) If he didn’t die than he could be close to death or contagious. If that isn’t the case then It’s very likely that he died from sickness or zombieness.
3) The old guy could potentially be worried about them getting rid of the kid as to avoid spreading. People get attached to others.
4) It could also maybe be his way of grieving or panicking cause he doesn’t want the kid harmed.
Honestly his face after he saw the elephant and the earnest care from the teacher came off like he was grieving a loss or a potential loss. (That is if he didn’t kill the kid himself, imma hope it’s the latter and that the kid died peacefully. I don’t like the idea of seeing them kill the kid cause he’s weak and contagious.)

the spoilers I have heard about this (btw just read down you'll see alot). I really do like the art style of this artist, that somehow picks disturbingly intriguing novels to adapt...
