I have many conflicted feelings with this manga, like, honestly I think it really reflects Japanese specific views on r*pe and gender roles, it made me really sad because I've known people who also try to "love" their abusers, thats why I don't mind if is ambiguous in ots moral stance, because you can't really reach this people if you just say them "tjis is wrong don't do it because I say so" , the message of finding your own answe was the right one overall.
BUT i'm just human and theres some parts that made me so ANGRY, the main one is that most ladies were way to "nice" to that piece of crapa of a man/ human the friend's boyfriend was, if just ONE showed real anger towards him I think it would feel more fair, you can heal and not forgive too.
Thats why I never thought my "favorite" characters would end up being the friend, the moment she became pregnant character development hit like a truck, she really did a 360, she even started to understand Misuzu, when she also "saved" her husband I got mad but then she expressed my exact thoughts, Is better if that trash keeps on living suffering EVERYDAY instead of the easy way ou (if he died i'd be happy too so is a win/win) but when it was revealed she "loved" him... nah, it dissappointed me, she has no actual reason to keep "loving" him.
I didn't like the romance either, if you can call it that, it was nice as a confusing phase in the middle, but it should've ended with the message that he is a kid and that kind of relationships will always be wrong and doomed, an adult should never, under any circumstance, date a minor, even less with trauma bonding and with an obvious power imbalance. Niizuma as a character is also weird, lol. I never really conected , but is sad him being abused wasn't as explored as the women's.
What happened to the model that was a student and "comfortable" with her body that ended up uploading nudes on twitter and the girl with the brother had no closure or explanation at all, well, Kana kind of did, but the story is so ambiguous (for me at least) that I got lost honestly, for a japanese reader may be easier tho, cultural differences.
Anyway , is a really interesting manga, but it falls short on handling the already taboo themes, and is kind of repetitive, and the whole "women are weak" can give unfortunate implications.
I like how , even if Kitagawa "wants" to speed things up she is still innocent and gets easily flustered with Gojo (messing up his first name lol) , is her first time dating after all, Gojo, we all know he is SUPER traditional and thats fine, I'm sure they'll find a way, dating is exactly for that after all.
I think is so funny how Marin ,who is shorter and thin, eats more than 1.80+(? Gojo xD even more since she canonically does gain weight, nice to see a girl who loves to eat not caring abou tbe consequences from time to time.
Mommy Miyako and Melt are doing well, I'm proud, they started with a rather antagonistic and immature attitude and look, Melt now is an amazing actor and Miyako is taking good care of the company (basically hers now lol) that cares genuinely for her stars well being.
Something good came out of all this at least.

I actually find this to be Takano Yumi's best work, I think all the never ending drama fits with all the "Tragedy" the Little mermaid story is supposed to have. I'm used to soap operas so the story and the twist were good enough.
I'm surprised lol, I do prefeer Iris and Deo but I was ready for people to hate it since Deo did THAT to the Lotte, and they forgave him easily and even gave him a badie like Iris, btw I love Iris, she is the best girl Takano Yumi has created, She deserved a whole manga, her dynamic with Deo too, was good, Boss Girl and her reformed Playboy lol . I felt more eroticism and romance with them, Lotte and the prince are fine, but they were your typical overly sweet "true luv" main protagonists that gets boring fast.
Another character that surprised me was Millie, the village girl, she was so EVIL like actually crazy, manipulative, greedy, etc. But still in a believable way. I hate her for being a villain and her personality? Yes, Do I think she was a very good antagonist for the last part of the story? Of course, she was smarter and ypu could feel her malice to the core, even mlre than most of the other villains so far. Good thing they erased her memories.
Also the J plot twist, it gave an interesting insight to him and the nature of the stories, sadly it felt rushed and Deus ex With of the sea could have been better if there was more foreshadowing.
All in all, I like this story it holds a special place in my heart and even re read it from time to time.
Takano Yu.i writtes like your cheap erotic novel that can be bought at your local supermarket, still, I do read her works, some years ago I actually finished them all, Scatteres Courtesan was the newest, it looked interesting but fell really flat.
Both characters are plain as hell, usually they have more spice or at least are funny but this two? From looks to personality they are unremarkable, the story isn't interesting or "erotic" even tho they are in YOSHIWARA, you can writte so many things, but she took the safe route, the Male MC also took questionable decisions, it made sense if he was from the past, but since he was not it made him look like an idiot ╮(￣▽￣)╭.
Takano Yumi you can do better, maybe someday she will writte a new one, because I don't want this to be my last read from her.
