Well it was previously shown that academy values deweloping as a mage and research as most important and takes on a role of teaching and showing or looking for the correct way instead of just punishing. So its understandable that they would welcome a child who is a very promising mage and since they where on similiar power level as at least one of the trio, and the trio wants to get to class 4 (which they probably will).
The trio didn't start at the level they are now so they have to jump classes. If they started with this level they the protagonist would probably be on a higher class even.
