YOU DON'T. Just walk away as if nothing happened. I believe that the reasonable and adult mind of a major graduated student is enough to end this story in the fist chapter. So I wanna know what's the bait for the MC to make her go through this.

The protagonist is trying to be low key, but sucks at it. Like going around hooded when everyone else in the place is normally dressed, she kinda sticks out like a sore thumb. Another example is when she doesn’t want to be noticed and recognized by her ex, and acts all suspicious by getting worked up and starts to run, that screams SUSPICIOUS from miles away. Plus, when interacting with the prince for their first time, she talks too much, giving too many information, and by saying that [she being accompanied by the Duke is because of a debt of gratitude] is like saying [I’m available.] Then when the price invide her at an event, she’s like upset because she doesn’t want anything to do with him. The protagonist that I guess is supposed to be smart, actually shows to have a pretty low IQ. But I guess a that there won’t be a story otherwise.
Who wrote this? Seriously. That dude should have gone insane as that point.
It’s like a person just playing an MMORPG and feeling no pain that the actual character felt, and kept his ration.
I believe he would barely be rational at that point, after all that torture and time.
Sort of going murderous after coming back.
It’s clear that the writer lacks experience, and I’m not saying that he need to suffer to write about sufferance.
It’s that they lack writing experience in the first place, one should start first with something close to them, but even the start, the failure, the most human topic is just skimmed over like a grocery list of misery and failure.
