Btw Ik people have been disagreeing on whether they ship hatano w the Mc or not, bc of the age gap and other things, but to me it's clear hatano and the Mc WILL NOT end up together as long as he's a high schooler. Even the Mc has made that clear and I'm sure the author doesn't want that either. Although I'm sure hatano could get any other love interest in the manga, he's actively chosen to keep loving the Mc, even as an unrequited love.
