I'm so sad for the OG Penelope, she was killed repeatedly by Yvonne (Leila) for the same plot. She wished peace for the people but no one take sides on her and labeled her as evil and antagonist of the story. That is why Marquis Verdiandi reverses the time to make up for the chance to make what's right.

She targeted their innermost fears and and what they are guilty most of. Penelope almost got brainwashed by having her see that her original body is dead and rotting of worms. Making her mind to falter thinking she has no reason to come back. This is not true at all, she's in a coma.
