on a more serious note, I think it's obvious that he understands that she's gone through some traumatising events due to unconsented physical touch- with or without the sexual undertones- and that mutual of feeling of disgust is why he feels comfortable touching bc she respected his boundaries and never pushes him
sorry I'm rambling but as someone who has very mixed feelings about touch while also being touch starved, this chapter kinda made me wanr to rant

I don't mind it really. It's unfair to have expected the Father to change unless Penelope herself changed– and now that she did change, he's responding in kind.
Which is why I find it a bit weird that there's so many people who don't seem to like his character development- feels like double standards to me, when we have so many poster boy asshole dads in this genre.
i agree with you, but what is vexing is that he knew all that was done to her, he knew how she was treated by the maids and how she was accused of stealing when she was younger when she didn't he let his sons and the maids and butler of the house treat her like trash, and now he is saying she is a child of the ekhart house and she cannot be treated that way, that is a load of BULLSHIT right there, if he didn't know al that his title would just be for show, how will the duke not know what is going on in his own house. penelope then went to doing outrageous things because that was the only was the people in that house will actually notice her, apart from that they treat her like she doesn't exist, and the father knows everything and still allowed her to be treated that way because he doesn't care and he believed that she will not do anything about it, but when she was now tired of their shit they then started to take her a bit seriously her and show concern and care for her, all that time when she was being mistreated she did not exist but now that she is tired of it all they want to keep her with them. what sort of foolish shamelessness is that sure there is character development with the guy but i really can't easily accept it until the guy apologises for the shit he did, even if he did not instigate it he knew and refused to do anything that is unforgiveable
I agree, I'm glad to see all the characters improving, but it's hard to like the dad and others when they've done nothing in the past and watched Penelope get harrassed and badmouthed, and now all of a sudden they care about Penelope and have respect for her.
