It feels like a similar plot to other manhwa like this. Especially solo leveling. I.E. happening upon a super powerful powerup/class change in a game-like world, and becoming the strongest.
However this one feels too...generic. And being too blatant with the dick stroking of the MC. Like he literally gets everything handed to him on a silver platter, and so far at chapter 12, he's the "so much the bestest and beats all the other men" and "all the girls immediately respect/like him" kind of MC.
I feel like the author completely forgot that the MC's "soul" came from our modern world and took over Feng Jui's body. It's been quite a while since there was even a hint of a reference to it.
And if that origin story was just a stepping stone, why use it at all? Why not just have the MC go through some kind of awakening while at the brink of death? Why did it HAVE to start as an isekai?
I get what you're saying. It just bothers me a little bit that the MC right now is completely acting like the person from this world. The "mom" she saved wasn't even her mom, but the original person's mom. Yet she refers to the woman as her mom, and gets emotional like they've had a bond lasting many years. Even though that was the first time they actually met.
To add, the story used to be about the MC carving out a path for herself, independent and strong, by being either kind or ruthless depending on which was needed. And by using her knowledge and experience of her past life to become a highly skilled doctor and cultivator.
Now though... She's still a "strong woman" compared to many other women in other stories. But her reliance on the white haired guy is creeping in more and more, feeling more like a damsel needing saving as the chapters go on. And it feels like she's more swept up into whatever is happening around her now, rather than carving out her own path to walk.
Goddamn...third time reading through the entire manga, and it's still just so damn good. The pacing, the hints at first and then the slow reveals. The battles that keep ramping up at a good pace. And even the stories after the main one ended, like his son or how other people lived without the appearance of the gates.
This manwha is seriously perfection when it comes to this genre.
Good god talk about a self-fulfilling prophecy. "This guy destroyed the world in all other timelines I've seen. In this one humanity is thriving. I know, let me paint him as the enemy of humanity in this timeline as well, despite him only ever fighting to rid the world of monsters! That'll surely not result in him actually becoming the enemy of humanity! Nah, this'll surely save the world!"
Good god this current main villain is fucking brain dead. This timeline was fine. But now he's doing everything in his power to cause the exact thing he's "saying" he's trying to prevent.
Yuji should seriously learn from his mistake in chapter 66.2... Instead of dealing with the problem when he dragon was still weaker, he decided to be his passive self once again and "wait and see". And now he's in deeper shit than if he had acted right away. >.>
It not a surprise cause his fall is his passiveness and it not going to change over night cause I all this situations he has won even with that weird dragon reincarnation, what he needs to be less passive about is not the monsters but the people who will get hurt before he can help and as of now nobody has really been injured hence his continued passiveness.
Why do so many of these fantasy stories do this? Whenever there's some "high tech" needed in a world with magic, what do the authors go for? That's right...stuff from our modern era...
Just like the ship in chapter 39 now. Supposedly an anti-calamity magic warship. But it just looks like a modern day (or fairly modern at least) warship, only with modern cannons replaced with "magic laser cannons".
No creativity or anything. Just pure laziness. It's a world full of magic where physics have little meaning, why would such a world ever develop exactly the same as our non-magical, physics bound world?
think about it this way the MC is now in a basically Medieval world and their Advanced civilization could have been Basically our world just with Magic instead of Science or a Mixture there of simple really .
I just hate that when a story is supposed to be medieval/fantasy, authors like this go and put modern day things in the world.
Cellphones, TVs, cars/vans, guns, modern day fabrics with modern day designs, buildings with perfectly transparent smooth glass, heated baths and showers, soft mattresses, etc.
If you're going to make this "medieval fantasy" world like modern day with magic replacing modern day science 1 to 1, with the only difference being mage staves, swords and armor, why even make it medieval fantasy?
oh i know the feeling it does suck but once the author started putting the in LOST civ's thing it was like ok so this might in fact basically be a Magic based Version of our own world which removes much of wanting to finished reading .
agreed it always takes me out of the immersion too
