akihiko was not entirely the problem. Yes, he hated ugetsu at first but it developed plus ugetsu is the one who broke up, the one who keeps pushing him and expecting him to comeback again. Their relationship is toxic and both of them are responsible for that.

Ugetsu made the split up because he thinks he was responsible for Akihito's confidence as a violinist to drop since he was born as a prodigy. He felt that he was the one stopping Akihito to become a better violinist. Ugetsu wasn't expecting a comeback, you can see from the movie and the manga that he was intentionally letting Akihito see him with other men so that Akihito himself would leave him already.

Yet he told Mafuyu he wanted Akihiko to come back. He pushed away but at the same time kept him close in that room, coming and going into his life as he pleased. When Akihiko told him he wants to leave, he got angry. "Why are you abandoning the violin?", he said, he was angry to see Akihiko move on. See, when two people are in a toxic relationship, it's not always one persons fault. Because they both cared, cared much it hurt both of them. But Akihiko was conflicted and suffocated, yet gave his all to Ugetsu, while Ugetsu tried to run away from the responsibilites keeping Akihiko on a leash at the same time. He wanted to reject Kaji, like when he broke that cup, because that's what would have been better for both of them but he was afraid to let go of that tiny world they shared. Because even if it was suffocating, it had a familiarity, and if you share so many memories with a person, it's really hard to let go even if you grow to hate each other. If you ever had a toxic friend or relationship, you'd understand how hard it is to break from it. It hurts, it really does hurt to let go then, and neither of them was able to let go, waiting for the other to break the ties being terrified of the outcome at the same time. They both were toxic.

Plus, letting Aki see him with other people is just straight up cruel. If he really wanted to let Aki go without hurting him more than what was necesary he could have just move out or something, but no, he let Akihiko see him knowing damn well it would hurt him, yet still didn't draw a clear line between them.

Akihiko slept with other people and ugetsu was in his appartement, he has the right to do anything he want, and if you read the chapter again « I've been pushing him away but he hasn't given up on me at all. I've been trying to leave him every chance I get. But it seems like I'm still not good at doing that, so... I've always been waiting for him to let go of me » it’s was just for let him go imagine how hard and painful it was for him

We can't deny that Ugetsu did that bitchy stuff so Kaji could forget him and live his own new life. Ugetsu is a kind guy but yes the way he did it is wrong

100% agree, like yes the way he did it was wrong but he also knew that just staying w akihiko would damage them both even more, and thats why given is literally a masterpiece
