holy shit though. the author took years of christmas specials to really build a story for a different timeline and that’s so impressive to me i thought this timeline will only continue once in a whole year (since it’s a christmas story) but the author is now continuing the story from that timeline. it’s really so impressive, i just wish it was clearer, because you rlly have to reread the story several chapters back to understand what timeline we’re on. there are just some inconsistencies (like momo’s job and his apartment) but i can excuse that, given how it’s been YEARS since the christmas special storyline started.
sure but i’m sorry because this summary will focus on he tian and momo because they got more going on in the christmas special.
basically, on one christmas night, while momo was working late, he tian surprised him and asked why he’s working on christmas eve. momo was surprised because he tian had gone for so long by this time. he tian was being clingy and affectionate as always, while momo was being avoidant (?) while being bullied by he tian. they went to this party and momo got shitfaced drunk talking about chicken dick is back, he still hasn’t grasped the fact that he tian is finally back after so long (i think), and he tian brought him back to his apartment and gave him a box of condom as a gift, but inside was a ring if irc. momo was rlly emotional and they cuddled
jian yi and xixi were also spending christmas together in the specials
ah so when he tian said that he was going away for “two days” that was a lie? cause he and jian yi went away for so long that by the time they got back, it’s post college graduation already? and the christmas special where he tian went back is the beginning of this timeline? that explains momo’s grudge against he tian who left him for so long? am i understanding this right?
when he tian escaped from his brother and was hiding from him in chapter 440! he tian took momo into the woods to say that he was going away for 2 days. that was one of the last episodes from that timeline i think. so i thought that was the author telling us that that was the only thing he tian told momo before going away.
Oh thank you for telling me the chapter! I had forgotten about that line so it was good to go back.
Now, technically, you could be right and wrong.
This line is said while they are still in middle school-- but the current chapter shows a 3rd year high school student card, which would be 3 years apart from that, and theoretically means that He Tian was around until then...but it could be a mistake in the translation, maybe, or Old Xian could be trying to rectify precious mentions of them in middle school as being high-school (which would lead to a nasty problem in the storyline, but alas). I feel like this realy does fit as a way to transition into the future where it has been *way more than 2 days*, but the timeline we have so far wouldn't fit 100%. Maybe He Tian went off and disappeared a bunch of other times? And Mo was especially mad this time because it was the one time he wasn't notified? Who knows!
I guess we'll only know for certain after a few chapters (RIP)
i’ve seen translation confuse middle school and high school in china or foreign countries, or they use them interchangeably at least so i kinda see that happening. i also agree with the second part bc old xian has gotten inconsistent with the story so we’ll never know!
now i’m rlly confused when he tian and jian yi went off the grid because i reread a couple of chapters in the beginning where zheng xi said that jian yi went missing during their 2nd day of highschool. now i’m confused whether jian yi went missing for a long time a couple of times, or this was the long hiatus with he tian that is kind of the most important plot device in the series.
XiXi says that when Jian Yi went missing that day, he thought he'd never see him again, and we jump back to XiXi being in university-- so I think it's fair to assume he was gone for 3 or 4+ years, but how long exactly is hard to say because we're not really given anything to compare with. They spend at least some time together before *that* Christmas, though; so they've met and have been together (at least in a friendly way lmao) before He Tian's comeback, since he specifically comes back during Christmas (ch224). So I don't think their "disappearances" (so to speak) are tied to one another.
Their families for sure have a shady business transaction going on, but I think it's safe to say the two of them "come and go" independently
OOOOH okay! i was really under the impression that he tian’s “business” was just taking over his brother’s business so in my mind, that extended to helping jian yi with his family matters. but thank you for this! if i think of their parting that happened separately, the timeline makes more sense. i wish old xian would release more chapters about their parting, both he tian and jian yi’s, to clear things up more. thank you so much!
While He Cheng (and his father by extension) seems to work closely to "Mr. Yi", it's not clear what exactly his father wants He Tian to do. From what I can gather from their "mafia-esque" style, he probably wants to teach He Tian how to run their whole operation (being the head/the boss)-- which would mean helping protect Jian Yi, technically, but probably doesn't mean he will be as physically involved in that as, say, one of the men that would work for him.
They also probably manage other "non-shady" businessess (hence the horrendous amount of wealth) and I think that's what He Tian has his eyes on, since he talks about being able to provide for Mo, and this would be the safer way to do it
mingwa please prove us wrong and prove that you are a writer capable of THINKING and creating meaningful art by KILLING KIM DAN AND GRANNY and turning this entire series into a tragedy. because there is no EXCUSE that will ever be acceptable for jaekyung to end up with kim dan in the end. just kill kim dan at this point so he won’t be miserable anymore, his life’s fucking ruined by jaekyung anyway. any attempt at happiness in kim dan’s end would be so ass at this point cause him ending up with jaekyung would only mean that jaekyung’s attempts at making kim dan completely dependent on him is successful and is kim’s dan only shot at happiness.
where did i even say that he cant have that. where did i also say that jaekyung cant die instead.
also in case u didn’t understand the message that i’m trying to say, what i’m saying is if mingwa is so adamant at making kim dan end up with jaekyung in the end despite all this, he might as well end kim dan’s shit.
i fear this isn’t the chasing arc that the audience needed mingwa……… jaekyung still has the upper hand, is not showing any semblance of remorse, still thinks kim dan is an object that he can get by throwing some cash, is INVASIVE as fuck……. just cut it out there’s no fucking hope. kim dan i know things are hard, but don’t give in. he doesn’t deserve you baby :(
ctfu because he’s chasing him to ANNOY him and TANE ADVANTAGE of him again oh my lord i’m really gonna have a hard time accepting this mfka’s supposed character development. he’s an asshole through and through. unless mingwa suddenly ruins his characterization by making him pathetic, i will never be able to stomach this mfka being kim dan’s supposed male lead
ROMANTIC OPENER IS HERE ILY BABY
also @ some novel readers, this is just my opinion but i think the manhwa not including some scenes and moments is fine because that way the storytelling would be seamless. the problem with the novel is that it has too much comedy in scenes where comedy isn’t needed, or prolonged and unnecessary scenes due to CEJ’s stubbornness. the manhwa not including the couple bickering about the door is a good decision (for me, although it removed some character interaction between the main couple) because it prolonged the scene so much that goyo was literally almost half dead the moment CEJ stopped being stubborn. the novel literally has zero urgency when it comes to situations like this, so deleting prolonged scenes may just remedy that flaw.
the only downside is that it also removes the slow build up between the couple’s relationship but i guess it will be fine given how the couple is still teetering and navigating their unlabelled relationship up until now in the novel. like the manhwa still has a hundred chapters to build their relationship so don’t sweat it this stubbornness isn’t the first and is definitely not the last from CEJ’s end so no one is missing out really
also another reason i could think of why they removed the scene is because LSY said that you can only use the door one way and that was a LIE. LSY could be lying about that or the author just forgot about that because goyo’s door was continuously used as a two-way door in the novel and the author didn’t clarify whether was LSY was lying or not. so i guess for the sake of keeping goyo’s ability consistent, they removed that part which is honestly such a good move
second, CEJ’s character remains stagnant. at first, i loved that he’s a hero who’s only known to shoulder burdens alone. but at this point, it’s just too much. almost 300 chapters in and he still hasn’t improved from his hero complex. it’s POINTLESS at this point, because it just hinders the protocol and teamwork and it just puts an emotional strain on LSY who worries tireless over CEJ. he won’t communicate with LSY, he’s not upfront with his feelings, his choices are done with the most bullshit justification, and there’s still no sign of him snapping out of it!!! as a novel reader, it’s so painful because hundreds of chapters were wasted for the sake of prolonging the sub-arcs. the pacing could have been impeccable but no! the disjointed communication between characters and their selfishness just ends up prolonging the scenes, which doesn’t give the story the sense of urgency that you see in stories responding to the apocalypse. am i the only one who feels like this?
so TLDR: am i crazy or did the story fall off at the last arc because the characters are SHIT at communicating, their response is passive, LSY’s character downgraded as a walmart version of hua cheng who couldn’t even do what hua cheng does best, and CEJ still hasn’t improved!
i know i’m gonna get hate for this. because it’s an amazing story, but it’s kind of getting painful to read. and i’m afraid that when the manhwa ends in 2-3 yrs, some readers are also gonna find the flaws i’ve pointed out. hopefully not, but readers who could read would. i just hope that the manhwa adapts the story well enough for it to be tolerable, or enough to make the readers ignore its flaws. it’s doing a good job so far, so i’m hopeful.
oh my god thank god i wasn’t crazy!! i was also getting to disoriented because of the comments who keep 1) pitting all the blame to the villains as if the characters themselvea aren’t contributing to their fuckery 2) keep misunderstanding LSY’s character yet praising and excusing CEJ 3) not understanding the WHOLE point of the plot.
i swear some of em read with their eyes closed.
okay so don’t get me wrong. i loved this story to the point of reading the novel. i love the concept and the fact that it’s BL, and that’s why i’m saying this as someone who cares about this story.
but am i the only one who feels like the story fell off ever since the apocalypse arc started? it feels like it’s just pointless choices after pointless choices all over again.
first, the characters are incredibly passive at responding to the apocalypse. they won’t COMMUNICATE SHIT! you’re telling me yall have built-in disc0rd servers at your disposal but yall won’t even use it to relay information about the apocalypse? CEJ and Ga-eul have the ability to access the memories from former timelines and that could have helped a lot in responding to the end. but the problem lies with the fact that the characters kept withholding information to themselves! it’s so infuriating to witness. because of that, they always almost end up getting extinct! (the only reason they didn’t is because of prometheus which is an outlier in the system which changes the course of things a little). this also includes not being transparent to the public about the plague! it’s literally so AGGRAVATING. the justification of the media black out is even more ridiculous, completely disregarding that government transparency could have saved lives (which the novel is NOW showing).
MY BABY… MY BABY……
