A genuine question bc I just don't understand. Like what is the reason? Is it for angst, drama? I truly don't get it.
Edit: I don't mind toxicity but there's a level to this. I don't like unequal relationships. If the ML is a piece of shit, I want the MC to be equally as bad or worse. Tats for tats, you feel me? If the ML is on demon time, why is MC out here being mother Teresa of suffering? This is not suffering Olympics. Get your lick back!
yeah, i agree - many had a lot of potential as you said but it also depends on the viewers, sometimes readers would msg the authors to add a bit more UMPH to it thus creating the toxicity, its what gets it fame i guess, green flags do get boring after some time since its the same shit everyday, but of course adding toxicity is fine to an extent just not rape or sm shit since that completely ruins it, to make it interesting you could make one of the characters possessive at the very least or sm shit but adding rape isnt justified at all imo
I'm the opposite (⊙…⊙ ) Reading stories w/ green flags or at least decent characters feels like a breathe of fresh air imo. I'd assume you only read manhwas from the "it feels as if they're dragging", since most of most of them tends to have a lot of chapters.
There are plenty of mangas that are interesting and isnt toxic, and they dont contain that much chapters, you'd feel like it's not enough. (〜 ̄△ ̄)〜 Anyway, at the end of the day it all comes down to preferences, so you do you
Most stories are about conflict. There's man vs man, man vs nature, man vs himself, man vs society, man vs the supernatural and man vs technology. So, for manga about relationships (especially the sex-driven ones), you'll see conflict (most often) between the mcs and there's always some degree of imbalance of power involved. Red-flag characters are often born from this type of story and they create a lot of drama, which many people enjoy.
Tl;dr - Because it sells better :P
Idk if you’re cursing at me for answering a question that was clearly going to get an honest answer to, but if you are please take that elsewhere because I was just answering and there’s no need to attack people over their opinion of a fictional story line like a child.
If you aren’t, I apologize for reading it the wrong way but there’s a good bit of fluffy stories out there. Just not manhwa wise because Korean authors often join together to make stories that appeal to readers and most people live for massive character development alot of fluffy stories dont have. This doesn’t mean all just most. Judging by your reading list you havent read alot so I’m sure youll find something that peaks your interest! (-:
no not cursing at you but I feel like a manga/hwa/hua gets ruined if it's just nice and fluffy but they make the male lead or mc toxic, abusive, rapist or anything of that sort if they wanna add drama they can introduce different characters why does it have to be mc or the love interest? It ruins it as a whole because it's not romance anymore
(also actually I have read a lot of them but I only made an account here last year so these are all the ones I just read as of now)
I don't know about y'all but I also feel the same way.
At some point in the story, green flags get quite boring. We need some of that action to spice things up. The majority are into that nowadays. Maybe it's just my preference but to be honest, I can't manage a story being too pure with green flags flying up around. That's just too…bright and damn plain? Is that the word?
Toxicity adds a kind of spice to it. It gets things riled up in the story. Some might not like the spice when rape is involved, correct, but from what I've seen, there are actually people that are into that…thing. It's also acceptable.
If a story is fluffy with no toxicity, then perhaps, it has to be short to be popular. Ain't gonna lie, I did like CBAW, but I needed more, yeah, the spice;) But anywho, read what you wanna read, don't just spread hate:)
But rather than making mc or ml toxic why can't we add toxic characters why do we have to ruin a perfectly healthy relationship for the namesake of drama?? It icks me so bad how authors make a story so good and cute and then make the love interest toxic, abusive or anything of that sort only for the name of drama.
You're just ruining a healthy relationship and feeding people into delusions that 'Oh he is a green flag so what he is doing isn't toxic at all'
It ruins the healthy relationship they have. True, but don't you think a bit of toxicity strengthens their relationship? In the end, they talk things out and come to understand each other more. They tend to know their partner's likes and dislikes. They actually work things out and live a happy life in the end. Not everything has to be perfect. I believe that is how a relationship tends to be. I'll simply put it to be the author probably wants to be a bit realistic?
Another point, it also depends on the reader's thoughts about the delusion thing you talked about, An educated person wouldn't eat into those delusions, they already understand the terms placed on those actions.
But I get your point though. The way some authors do it can be quite excessive especially when it's not even correlating with their plot.
I believe those which you're talking about are problems in a relationship, toxicity of a person solely (atleast for me) talks about manipulation, gas-lighting, abuse, rape and all other sorts.. the one which you're talking about are obstacles faced in a relationship and I also agree that there should obstacles in a relationship for it to be a strong one... but when somebody says toxicity the only thing I think of is abuse, manipulation and all the other stuff I listed before and there is
Any recs with verse relationship? I just hate wasted potential. So many great books stuck with heteronormative relationships when both of them could bottom or top
I also don't mind trans characters or feminine gays or tops
