Ain’t a basic yaoi at all. It feels a lot more sophisticated compared most other stories ive read. it does steer off into a side story in the middle of it but it’s all well worth reading. To me, bc of the vintage-looking artwork, and mature relationship development, it’s one of my favorite bl stories to date.
Definitely not a basic yaoi I don’t know how to exactly explain it but ITS BEAUTIFUL the author did an amazing job of writing the characters and giving them a happy ending without making it seem like plot armor I definitely recommend you read it

Normally don't go for the rape stuff either (tbh it's dissapointing how little you can find cover art with a couple smiling X__X), which kind of brings up my next point? Did you look up the cover art at all because it's pretty obvious that it's gonna involve rape, or atleast something unsavory???
