I mean, it was his friend who JUMPED on the opportunity. The mc had been contemplating it and got as far as asking him if he'd ever had sex, but it looked like it was going to stop there. It seemed like he was chickening out till the friend jumped on the opportunity. The friend then somehow took the leap from "have you had sex" to, not only "he wants to have sex", but to "he wants to have sex with me" and just asked him. All he did was acknowledge that yes, he does want to have sex with him, the friend wants to also, problem solved for the mc and its consensual. Also, as far as the friend having feelings for him, i wouldn't consider the sex a bad thing (though spoilers it apparently doesn't happen) since he's trying to move on and it might have lead to feelings. I would've JUMPED on the chance to have sex with my old crush JUST for the chance it might've made him look at me as more than just a friend. If it didn't, cut my loses with a great memory.
