I mean she is literally in a form of slavery/indentured servitude in real life. Yes she obvi has more freedoms, but she also has no freedoms at all. She was born into her caste system and forced to perform her role until her death, only kept alive this long due to her usefulness. Now there are literal slaves also in her world, but understanding her own position as just a slightly better off version of those slaves is what will one day give her the ability to free those. She is able to keep her mental freedom but does not have bodily freedom, but with that she will free all others. Class consciousness and all that
Modern slavery is a term for a reason. Although her situation technically isn't as bad as people in the lower districts, it doesn't mean that she isn't being exploited. She probably just had a higher IQ than them.
From my understanding, this society mc lives in has "real" humans in district 1 and "artificially made" humans born purely to serve the "real" ones. Keeping this in mind, can you really say that she isn't a slave?
