I don't believe Genas was in love with Enoch mother, I don't want to and I don't care if the story tell that. He was groomed by a woman who used him for feeling better. In the flashback, he seems full aware of the manipulation he was put in but didn't have the strenght to fight back and all he can do was feeling empathy for his half-brother because they shared the same abuser (ML mother). And now he's with a rapist empress who bear jalousy over a woman who groomed him. She sees it as a love story because she is herself an abuser.

tbh I don't care about MC being ordinary because it shows that (dumb) ML loves her no matter what she looks like and I prefer that kind of love, not something about appareance but personnality
